FAQs

How do I sign up?

In January, WULL will send out an email with information about Junior Umpiring, including a link where you can add your contact info to the Google doc.  Be sure to sign up for emails from WULL on our homepage.

Who is eligible?

This is a Juniors program only (not for adults).  Majors players through high school (West U community only) will be eligible for the program.  Jr. Umpires do not have to be a “baseball player”.

What is the time commitment for the season?

It's up to you! Junior Umpires will provide us their availability for the season, and we will offer games around your schedule.

Each umpire outing is usually scheduled as a doubleheader (approximately 4 hours).

What divisions will the Junior Umpires be officiating?

Junior Umpires officiate for the Pee-Wee 7 and Pee-Wee 8 age groups.

Where will the games be played?

Umpired games will be either at South Campus or Main Campus. During a shift, each game will be in the same location in the event you are assigned a two-game schedule.

How many games will I be offered to officiate?

Up to you!  Our goal is to offer all umpires at least 2 outings during the season, but depending on your availability, you may have a chance to umpire 6 games or more in the season.

Do Junior Umpires get paid?

Yes, there is a graduated pay rate based on experience.

What are the prerequisites to join?

  • Mandatory 1-hour classroom training session in January
  • Mandatory 1-hour field training in January
  • Date/time/location for both sessions will be communicated via email in January

What if I need to cancel one of my assigned game shifts?

48-hour notification prior to the assigned games is requested so that replacement umpires can be found.  No-call/no-shows will lead to eviction from the junior umpire program.

Who do I contact with more questions?
